In this episode of Management Meets, Steve and Katie sit down with Senior Lecturer and Director of Teaching on MBA Programmes, Dr. Jane Ellis-Brush, to discuss her extensive career and impact on community inclusion in the South West. Jane completed her PhD in commercial relationships at the School of Management in 1999 and has held numerous leadership roles, formerly serving as Managing Director for Citibank.
We focus on Jane’s journey as co-founder of 1st Impressions, a community interest company empowering women through clothing and confidence. Jane discusses the challenges and successes of running a voluntary organisation, the importance of community inclusion, and her personal experiences leading in male-dominated industries. I serve as Dean of the School of Management, at the University of Bath in the United Kingdom, where I began my career. Before Re-joining Bath, I held senior roles in research-intensive universities in the United Kingdom (the Universities of Warwick, and Birmingham) and Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. As Dean of the School of Management, I am responsible for the strategic direction of one of Europe's leading centres of business research and education. As a member of the University's Executive Board, I also contribute to the leadership, positioning, and prosperity of the wider University. In a former life, I am a leading scholar in the fields of business ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability. Specifically, my research explored firm-stakeholder relationships, the strategic management of these, and corresponding impacts on company performance and reputation. I continue to serve as an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Management, as a member of a number of journal editorial boards, and served for a number of years as a member of the scientific committee of the Chartered Association of Business School's Academic Journal Guide.
