Martin Callow

Martin is The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Global Strategy Lead for the Nature Bonds Program, one of TNCs most impactful conservation and climate strategies. With over 25 years of experience in conservation, Martin has established himself as a leader in delivering results on the ground and in the water and has built a deserved reputation for being a bridge builder. His international career began in the Seychelles, with the Royal Geographical Society. Prior to TNC, Martin had an impactful tenure with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), where he served in various leadership roles, including Country Director in Fiji and Marine Director in Myanmar. He also helped to establish WCS’s presence in Europe and acted as an advisor to several country programs across Central America, Central Africa, and Asia. He most recently held the position of Regional Director for the Southeast Asia Program and served as a member of WCS’s Global Leadership Team. Martin, also served as the first CEO for SeyCCAT - the conservation trust fund organization created as a result of the Seychelles Nature Bond that recently signed into law a marine spatial plan last year protecting 35 million ha's of critical ocean habitats. Martin’s career is characterized by his expertise in developing and implementing strategic conservation plans across complex socio-political environments, working with diverse and high-performing teams, and fostering partnerships that drive high-quality conservation and climate outcomes. His commitment to community engagement has enabled him to co-design projects to ensure conservation efforts deliver benefit to local communities. He has successfully brokered relationships with a range of public and private donors, as well as private sector companies and investors, to enhance financial investment in conservation. An alumnus of the University of Plymouth, UK, Martin earned his B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences and M.Sc. in Marine Sciences before completing his Executive MBA at the University of Bath, UK. After several years living overseas, he is now based in the UK and living in south Devon where he is also a trustee with the Devon Wildlife Trust.
